2019-2021 | Façade Design and Engineering in New York City
As a Design Associate at Island Exterior Fabricators (IEF), I have had the opportunity to delve into the façade design and fabrication industry. My day to day involves analyzing architectural details from our clients and developing shop drawings for curtain wall assemblies to be fabricated at the company’s factory on Long Island. As a very detail-oriented designer, I have contributed to both Coney Island Hospital and NYU Langone Ambulatory Clinic expansion by producing fabrication tickets and fastidiously checking that assembly parts were properly accounted for in material orders. In this position, I have come to appreciate the structural engineering side of the building industry. I work closely with IEF’s engineers to make sure that the assembly parts we fabricate respect our clients’ design intent and meet dead-load and wind-load requirements. In this process, I have to cross-reference documents from various consultants, familiarize myself with structural calculations and specifications.
